Job summary

Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC seeks a Roller Operator to safely operate, maintain, and repair rollers and to properly set up compaction equipment on site in Fort Myers. You will support the Foreman and the Ajax team to complete work efficiently.

Responsibilities include applying proper operating techniques, performing daily lubrication and upkeep, keeping equipment clean, and coordinating with the shop to resolve problems. Outdoor work and possible night shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work outdoors in field conditions.
• Ability to follow detailed operating procedures.
• Willingness to perform daily maintenance and basic repairs.

Responsibilities

• Proper Operation of Roller: follow timing, joint technique, and proper watering.
• Avoid excessive starting/stopping and match roller speed to layout.
• Establish and maintain an effective rolling pattern until density requires change.
• Proper Maintenance and Repair: inform shop of deficiencies, perform daily lubrication, keep roller clean.
• Act as on-site troubleshooter and communicate with shop to resolve problems.
• Proper Setup of Compaction Equipment: ensure weights are as directed and equipment is ready.
• Safety and Environmental: enforce Ajax handbook rules and safety standards.

Job description

Our Roller Operators are responsible for the safe and proper operation, maintenance and repairs, and proper roller setup. We require that they be committed to the total Ajax team effort by contributing to the proper completion of the work as directed by Foreman.

Responsibilities

Proper Operation of Roller

Follow proper techniques and methods including timing, pinching joints, stopping angles, proper watering of rolls and wheels, etc.

Avoid excessive starting and stopping.

Match roller speed to layout speed.

Participate in establishing and continues an effective rolling pattern until conditions, or density require change.

Proper Maintenance and Repair

Must keep shop informed of operating deficiencies.

Must perform daily maintenance and lubrication.

Must keep roller clean on a daily basis.

Must be on the job troubleshooter and communicate with the shop to find solutions to problems.

Assist the mechanic and perform mechanical repairs possible using standard tools and supplies kept on the job (Hydraulic leaks, loose belts, tighten chains and belts, minor fuel problems, etc.).

Proper Setup of Compaction Equipment for the Job

Make sure roller’s weights are as directed by the Forman.

All necessary compaction equipment is on the job and ready to go.

Must check out equipment each day.

Enforce all rules listed in the Ajax employee handbook.

Ensure all Ajax quality standards are met.

Ensure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental Rules and Regulations.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Field operation – Work is exposed to outdoor conditions, noise and heat.

Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, stooping, trunk movements, twisting, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.
