Job summary

MasTec Civil is hiring a Rodman/Instrument Survey Operator in Tampa, FL. You will support the Party Chief by creating surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way and control tasks, using traditional surveying tools and GPS-based methods.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of construction field experience with layout or survey responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, blueprints and procedures.
  • Basic arithmetic across units of measure.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge in layout and survey work.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Hold level or stadia rod at designated points to determine elevations and layout stakes.
  • Clear brush or obstructions from survey lines.
  • Measure distances between survey points with tape or chain.
  • Mark measuring points with markers or stakes.
  • Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
  • Assist in calculating heights, depths, and property lines.

We are looking for a Survey Technician that will assist the Party Chief in creating surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way and control survey tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys. Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
  • Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey.
  • Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
  • Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes.
  • Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
  • Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations.
  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
  • Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as assigned
  • Exercises own initiative in seeking additional work, or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignment
  • Continually work to sharpen skills and improve on the understanding of surveying
  • Punctual in work assignments
  • Conduct self in a professional manner in the presence of clients and co-workers
  • Meet project schedules and budgets
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
  • At least 1 years of experience working in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities or equivalent in similar craft.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Must have a developing knowledge of layout and survey work
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
