Job summary

Charles River Insourcing Solutions in Baltimore, MD seeks an Animal Care Technician II to provide husbandry and technical support for the production and maintenance of animal models. You will perform daily care, feed and water management, and assist with breeding programs in a fast-paced research environment.

The role requires at least 1 year of experience with research animals, a high school diploma or GED, and ALAT certification or equivalent training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of experience working with research animals (rodents).
• AALAS ALAT certification required or to be achieved within 1 year 3 months.
• LAT certification or equivalent training preferred.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, including water bottles, cage checks, feeding, and cage cleaning; document health concerns.
• Monitor environmental parameters and maintain written records.
• Assist with restraint and handling of various animal species; safely transfer non-human primates between cages.
• Provide support to the rodent breeding program, including mating setup, weaning, recordkeeping, and phenotype observations.
• Ensure cages are identified with strain, lineage, sex and status.
• Maintain breeding records with birth dates, ages, and fertility data; manage pedigree records.
• Care for potential transgenic births, determine sex and wean when appropriate.
• Provide animal identification (ear notching, tagging, toe clipping).
• Assist with specialized care including diets, medicated water, and care of immature, aged, and special study animals; administer drugs as directed.
• Assist research staff with logistics and scheduling; conduct research and laboratory support services.
