Job summary

Plus One, part of the Optum Workplace Well-being portfolio, is seeking a Rock Gym Coach/Route Setter at our Beaverton, OR location. You will provide engaging coaching, ensure safety, and support a community of climbers through instruction and route setting.

Qualified candidates have prior climbing experience, ability to teach belay and lead climbing, CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and a customer-focused mindset.

Qualifications

• 6+ months in a climbing role or 2+ years in an indoor climbing facility and/or as an outdoor climbing guide
• Climbing instruction background with ability to teach belay, lead climbing and technical movement classes
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

Job description

We are currently seeking a Rock Gym Coach/Route Setter to provide services and support to a retail company's global headquarters located in Beaverton, OR.

Responsibilities:

• Provide an engaging, safe, and community based environment for climbers to learn and grow
• Explain and demonstrate correct usage of climbing equipment and facility features
• Teach or co-teach core climbing courses for members
• Monitor participants and the area for safety
• Respond to member/guest suggestions, concerns, and complaints in a timely, professional, and consistent manner
• Maintain cleanliness and proper presentation of the rock wall climbing area
• Provide support to the broader fitness center as needed

Requirements:

• 6+ months working in a climbing role or 2+ years experience working in an indoor climbing facility and/or as an outdoor climbing guide
• Climbing instruction background with ability to teach belay, lead climbing and technical movement classes
• Must have current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Proficient in teaching belay, lead climbing and technical movement classes
• Experience setting and forerunning V4/5.10
• Ability to multi-task, and execute time management and problem-solving skills.
• Must be knowledgeable about the industry with the customer skills to network, engage, and interact with all clients, guests, and participants.
• Competent with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
• Preferred: A current nationally recognized Rock Climbing Certification such as PCIA or AMGA
