Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to design and build laboratory test infrastructure for robotic grasping systems in a fast-paced lab environment. This hands-on role combines hardware bring-up, firmware development, and data-driven testing to iterate ideas quickly.

You will collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and software teams, own testing tooling and data pipelines, and mentor others while shaping test strategies for scalable automation in MA labs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, OS).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, CS, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years building prototype or test hardware for electromechanical or robotic systems.
• Experience writing and maintaining software for hardware integration, test automation, data acquisition, or analysis in Python, C/C++, or a related language.
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and Linux systems.
• Experience adapting existing hardware or open-source software to stand in for a missing component.
• Experience building data pipelines that turn test output into usable data.
• Experience debugging failures spanning hardware, firmware, and software.

Responsibilities

• Build lab infrastructure to test new grasping ideas with real items quickly and maintainable.
• Bring up robot arms and workcells in lab, including motion and safety.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and science engineers to answer design questions with data.
• Establish characterization procedures for finger, gripper, arm, and workcell decisions.
• Instrument lab setups and anticipate data needs to compare architectures.
• Own software that enables testing, including hardware integration, data acquisition, test automation, and analysis tooling.
• Write bench-level controls firmware to move mechanisms quickly for evaluation.
• Automate item presentation for volume and repeatability testing across workflows.
• Diagnose problems across hardware, software, and environment and implement permanent fixes.
