Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC in North Reading, MA is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to design and build laboratory test infrastructure for manipulation robotics. The role blends hands-on lab work with software development to enable repeatable evaluation of grasping ideas on surrogate systems.

You will collaborate with controls, mechanical, and science teams to resolve design questions using data, and you will own automation, data pipelines, and instrumentation to support testing and learning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with prototype/test hardware for electromechanical or robotic systems.
• Experience writing software for hardware integration, test automation, data acquisition, or analysis.

Responsibilities

• Build the laboratory and test infrastructure for rapid grasping concept evaluations.
• Bring up robot arms and workcells in the lab, including safety and test harness integration.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and science engineers to answer design questions with data.
• Establish procedures and infrastructure to inform finger/arm/workcell decisions.
• Instrument lab setups to capture data for future questions and architecture comparisons.
• Own software enabling testing, including hardware integration, data acquisition, and automation.
• Write bench-level controls firmware to move mechanisms quickly and instrumented.
• Automate item presentation for volume and repeatability testing.
• Diagnose issues across hardware, firmware, and software and apply permanent fixes.
