Job description

Join to apply for the Robotics Systems Engineer II, Amazon Robotics Deployment Engineering role at Amazon

Description

The System Engineer plays a crucial role in the Amazon Robotics deployment team. They oversee the installation, troubleshooting, integration, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment in new and existing fulfillment centers (FCs). This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including working with mechanical systems, electrical components, configuring networking, and coordinating software systems. The ideal candidate has experience with complex electro-mechanical and network systems. They should also demonstrate leadership in leading the installation, maintenance, upgrades, or troubleshooting of these systems.

System engineers will work with a team of 1-5 engineers and collaborate with an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third-party and Amazon-designed robotics equipment. These deployments require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and other partner teams. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external partners and customers. The candidate must demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments and drive continuous improvement initiatives to prevent recurrence. This systems engineer position is a leadership role within the on-site deployment teams. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully leading work scopes and making effective decisions.

Engineers will deploy robotic systems across various phases of their product lifecycle. When supporting new products, the candidate is expected to lead the development of process documentation and modify existing processes. Strong technical understanding, love for field work, and a keen interest in understanding Amazon’s robotics systems are key attributes. Recognizing process gaps and taking ownership to develop solutions are important. Project durations can range from days to months and include travel across the US, with international work available for interested candidates. This position requires 75% travel and a valid US driver’s license.

Relocation: Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, or Austin is required for this role.

  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently, reporting to leadership
  • Excellent communication skills for customer interactions and project reporting
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to capture lessons learned, conduct retrospectives, and drive continuous improvement projects
  • Capability to manage a team of 1-5 engineers and trades during deployments
  • Proficiency in schedule management to coordinate with teams within and outside Amazon Robotics
  • Ability to oversee and resolve escalations during deployments, including quality hand-offs, testing, and system performance monitoring
  • Responsibility for delivering projects by owning KPIs related to on-time delivery, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability
  • Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and data-driven decision making

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and guide the installation of robotic technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers.
