The Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the Amazon Robotics deployment team. They oversee the installation, troubleshooting, integration, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment in new and existing fulfillment centers (FCs). This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including working with mechanical systems, electrical, configuring networking, and coordinating software systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with complex electro-mechanical and network systems. They should also demonstrate leadership in the installation, maintenance, upgrade, or troubleshooting of these systems.
Systems engineers will work with a team of 1-5 engineers and collaborate with an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third-party and Amazon-designed robotics equipment. These deployments require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and other partner teams. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external partners and customers. As an Amazonian, the candidate must demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments. They will also drive continuous improvement initiatives to prevent recurrence. This position is a leadership role within the on-site deployment teams. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully leading work scopes and making effective decisions.
Systems engineers will deploy robotic systems across various phases of the product lifecycle. When supporting new products, the candidate is required to lead the development of process documentation and modify existing processes. Strong technical understanding, love for field work, and a keen interest in understanding Amazon’s robotics systems are key attributes. The ability to recognize process gaps and take ownership of developing solutions is important. Project durations can range from days to several months and include travel across the US, with international opportunities available. This role requires 75% travel. A valid US driver’s license is required.
Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, or Austin is required for this role.
Support and guide the installation of robotic technologies at fulfillment centers. Develop detailed knowledge of robotic system operations and lead installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting both on-site and remotely. Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas and lead teams of engineers on projects.
