Openshelf in Midtown Manhattan is building an open-source system to automate physical inventory. We seek a Python backend engineer to maintain the current codebase and hardware control layer, and to advance AI-assisted development and internal dashboards.

You will work on-site with a small team, collaborating with senior engineers to design robust APIs, data models, and deployment processes, ultimately shipping features to production devices.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python with clean, testable code.
• Experience with FastAPI, APIs and asynchronous I/O.
• Familiarity with hardware interfaces and control (serial, Modbus, GPIO).

Responsabilités

• Maintain, debug, and improve the Python backend and hardware control layer.
• Write clean Python code interfacing with hardware (serial, Modbus, GPIO).
• Build and maintain internal tools and dashboards to monitor devices.
• Collaborate on software design decisions: API structure, data modeling, error handling.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment to real devices.
• Contribute to the full development cycle from concept to iteration.
