Job summary

OPENSHELF is building an open-source system to automate physical inventory with hardware and software integration. This role focuses on writing Python that talks to real hardware, testing and refining motion control, sensors, and robotics modules in a hands-on environment at our Midtown Manhattan office.

Qualifications

• Solid Python: readable, well‑structured code with async I/O, error handling, and testing.
• Willingness to get hands-on with hardware: motors, sensors, serial ports.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and tooling.
• Able to work on-site in Midtown Manhattan full-time.

Responsibilities

• Write and debug Python that controls real hardware—motors, axes, grippers, scanners, sensors over serial, Modbus, GPIO.
• Bring up and test new robotic modules from first motion to reliable operation.
• Support mechanical prototyping: CAD changes in Onshape, 3D‑printed fixtures, BOM tracking.
