Job summary

Tutor is seeking an engineer to build perception and monitoring systems for robots deployed in customer facilities. You will design and own the code path from sensor input to a safe, stopped robot, and test for weaknesses before they appear in the field.

You will work across product teams on safety-critical software, contribute to how the fleet remains deployable, and help shape safety standards and evidence provided to customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience shipping perception or monitoring software on robots or vehicles: lidar or camera pipelines, detection, tracking, or sensor fusion, in production.
  • Owned code where a bug could injure someone and influenced design, tests and reviews.
  • Strong software engineering: Python and C++ or similar, real-time constraints, verifiable code.
  • Some controls knowledge: stopping distances, latency budgets, and how perception decisions become motion commands.
  • You fix weaknesses and usually build the fix.

Responsibilities

  • Build the perception systems that keep people safe: detection, tracking, and monitoring from lidar and cameras on production robots.
  • Own safety-critical code: the path from a sensor reading to a stopped robot, including tests, failure modes, and upstream failure handling.
  • Design and review safety-relevant systems: how a robot decides it is safe to move and changes across the codebase.
  • Test for weaknesses using replayed field data, scenarios, and hardware faults.
  • Collaborate with product teams to build safety-related features.
  • Help set strategy: keep Tutor's robots safe and deployable as fleet and applications grow.
