Job summary

Tutor is seeking an engineer to design and build perception and monitoring systems that keep people safe around robots in production facilities. You will own the safety-critical software path from sensor readings to a stopped robot, test its robustness, and review safety-related design decisions across code changes.

You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure deployments are safe, reliable, and verifiable, and contribute to the safety-related standards and testing processes that empower

Qualifications

• Experience shipping perception or monitoring software on robots or vehicles (Lidar/camera pipelines) in production.
• Owned code where a bug could injure someone, influencing design/testing/review.
• Strong software engineering: Python and C++ or similar, real-time constraints, verifiable code.
• Understanding of stopping distances, latency budgets, and how perception decisions become motion commands.
• Proactive in fixing weaknesses and proposing fixes.

Responsibilities

• Build perception and monitoring systems for robots operating near people.
• Own safety-critical code paths from sensor input to robot stop, including tests and failure modes.
• Design and review safety-relevant systems and decisions on when a robot is safe to move.
• Test systems using replay data, constructed scenarios, and hardware faults to find weaknesses.
• Collaborate with product teams to integrate safety-critical features.
• Help shape safety strategy and deployability, including evidence for customers.
