Job summary

Field AI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Co-op to design and implement mechanical systems that house sensing and compute payloads for field robotics. You will work on rugged enclosures, thermal management, and manufacturability, collaborating with electrical and software teams to deliver dependable hardware for deployment.

You will build CAD models in SolidWorks, run FEA and thermal simulations, and generate detailed drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions to support production and field

Qualifications

• Experience with CAD design and mechanical prototyping.
• Familiarity with thermal and structural analysis methods.
• Ability to design for production and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with electrical, sensing and power teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and model mechanical structures including external enclosures, internal compute frames, and load-bearing chassis.
• Design and validate sensor mounts, payload attachment points, and mechanical interfaces.
• Implement IP-rated protection with gaskets, seals, membranes, and coatings.
• Develop thermal management strategies including fans, heatsinks, and conductive paths.
• Run CAD assemblies and perform FEA/thermal simulations to validate strength and heat dissipation.
• Produce mechanical drawings, GD&T annotations, BOMs, and assembly instructions for fabrication and QA.
