Job summary

Software Placement Group in Elizabethtown, KY is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to support and improve welding operations on the production floor. You will develop welding processes, troubleshoot welds, support robotic welding systems, and drive quality and productivity improvements while ensuring compliance with customer and industry standards.

This hands-on role partners with Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams, develops WPS, procedures, and documentation, and trains welders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or 3+ years welding engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of GMAW and AWS standards.
  • Experience developing welding parameters, process sheets, procedures, and training documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify weld defects and engineer effective solutions.
  • Reading engineering drawings, welding specifications, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and maintain weld process sheets, parameters, procedures, and standards for production welding stations.
  • Develop welding techniques and procedures for manual and robotic welding operations.
  • Troubleshoot weld failures, defects, and process issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support for robotic welding programs and automated assembly processes.
  • Assist with robotic weld gun calibration, equipment setup, communication, and performance verification.
  • Analyze weld coupons and test results to ensure compliance with customer specs.
  • Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and required documentation.
  • Ensure automated welding programs have all required documentation and approvals before release to production.
  • Monitor welding consumables, shielding gas, and wire usage to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Conduct welder and technician training on welding processes and quality standards.
  • Perform or support welding qualification and certification testing.
  • Inspect weld joints for compliance with standards and codes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of welding parameters, audits, procedures, and references.
  • Partner with Maintenance on preventive maintenance programs for welding equipment.
  • Evaluate new welding technologies and processes for potential implementation.
  • Support engineering changes, new equipment installations, and production launches.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve weld quality and reliability.
  • Support plant safety, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
