Job summary

FANUC America is seeking an Associate Field Service Engineer to perform onsite repair, troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance for FANUC robots and systems across the Midwest, with travel to Indianapolis, IN.

The role requires a customer‑focused problem solver, readiness for extended hours, overnight travel, and a clean driving record; you will document service results, coordinate with supervisors, and support after-hours pager rotations.

Qualifications

• Experience or education in robotics integration, installation, or service repairs.
• Ability to read and interpret technical prints and PLC ladder logic.
• Willingness to travel up to 80% and work extended hours.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in customer environments.

Responsibilities

• Discuss, diagnose, and repair robot problems as reported by customers.
• Troubleshoot and maintain robot mechanical units and controllers.
• Document performance, failure modes, and report results for troubleshooting.
• Provide daily status updates to Service Supervisor/Manager and Dispatch to update status.
• Complete Field Service Reports detailing labor, material, and travel costs.
• Coordinate field service activities with supervisors to ensure customer satisfaction and billing.
• Travel to customer sites, including overnight stays 2–3 nights per month, with ~80% travel.

Who You Are

The Robotic Associate Field Service Engineer provides onsite repair, troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance for FANUC robots and systems, scheduled, on an emergency basis, with the ability to travel on short notice and have the flexibility to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, while adhering to company and customer requirements.

Reporting to our Hoffman Estates, IL office, the Associate Field Service Engineer will provide support to customers in the Midwest and will be commutable to Indianapolis, IN. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused, problem-solver with a “service first” mindset who has experience with FANUC technology.

How It's Done

• Discuss, diagnose, and repair robot operational and process problems as reported by the customer or technical support hotline
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain robot mechanical units and controllers and electrical control devices
• Document robot and related equipment performance, failure modes and reporting results for the purpose of troubleshooting, repairing, and restarting the system
• Provide a daily report to the Service Supervisor/Manager & Dispatch to update status and availability
• Complete customer calls to understand the required parts and software needed for the visit
• Complete a Field Service Report after each customer call that describes the problem, the corrective action, and details the labor, material, and travel expense costs to provide to the customer and return to FAC for processing
• Maintain a service tool kit and documentation to facilitate rapid customer response
• Participate in the rotation of the Hot Pager for after-hours service support
• Coordinate responsibilities, activities, and schedule with Service Supervisor/Manager to ensure customer satisfaction, proper billing, and collections
• Communicate frequently with involved FAC employees and customer employees to ensure that expectations are met
• Return parts shipped for the service call but not purchased by the customer or defective parts replaced under warranty
• Provide telephone-based troubleshooting support to customer employees to resolve robot or related peripheral equipment operational problems on an as needed basis
• Travel to customer sites with some overnight travel ranging from 2-3 nights per month
• Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively to customer locations (~80%)

What You Need

• High School Diploma or GED or Associate’s Degree or equivalent technical education; or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience or education in a related environment with robotics integration, installation, or service repairs
• Experience or education with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting, teardown, and repair
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic prints and related technical documentation
• Familiar with standard machining practices, tooling, fixtures, and gauges
• Ability to read and interpret PLC ladder logic
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license, have a reliable personal vehicle for business use, be legally authorized to rent a vehicle in the United States, and be able to travel throughout the assigned service area as required
• Ability to work independently in customer environments with minimal supervision
• Ability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds

• Knowledge of older platforms or FANUC CNC controls is a plus

FANUC American is seeking a qualified applicant for an Associate Field Service Engineer role. The pay range for this position is $53,578 - $85,948 per year. The pay range listed is based on both salary and other compensation, including bonuses and profit sharing, that an employee may be paid during their employment with FANUC America. Benefits include medical insurance, 401k savings, paid vacation, vision insurance, dental insurance, tuition reimbursements, disability insurance, life insurance, and paid holidays.
