Job summary

Midlothian Council is advertising road operatives to support delivery of road projects with a modern fleet of vehicles and plant. Ideal candidates have surfacing, drainage, plant operation, line painting or winter maintenance experience, and a willingness to obtain additional qualifications.

Successful applicants will be eligible for overtime and an employer-contributed pension scheme, with salary on the first point of the scale.

Qualifications

• SVQ level 2 in Road Building or equivalent.
• HGV/LGV driving license.
• Desirable Plant Operator Certificates, Health and Safety Certificates (IOSH working safely or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Understand processes and interpret technical plans and site drawings.
• Take site measures to allow the accurate ordering of materials and equipment.
• Operate a number of plant safely and efficiently.
• Carry out winter maintenance duties as required.

Job description

Road services are accepting applications for suitably experienced road operatives to help us deliver various exciting project utilising a modern fleet of vehicles and plant. Ideal candidates will have experience in surfacing, drainage, plant operation, line painting or winter maintenance. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to partake in overtime and on call operations, which is coupled with a generous pension employer contribution. Jobholders must also hold the SVQ level 2 in Road Building or equivalent experience and be willing to obtain a NRSWA operators' qualification., along with at least 1 year's post qualification. Experience in the road maintenance industry to carry out a variety of tasks and be conversant in the safe operation of a number of items of plant associated to the tasks. A HGV / LGC drivers license is an essential requirement for this position. Experience in carrying out winter maintenance duties is desirable for this position. The jobholder will be required to understand processes and interpret technical plans and site drawings. They will also be required to take site measures to allow the accurate ordering of materials and equipment. The jobholder will have sufficient proven experience.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £30,619.22 per annum.
