Douglas County Government (CO) seeks an Equipment Operator Apprentice to operate a variety of heavy equipment for native, gravel, and paved road maintenance. The role includes pothole repair, culvert work, snow removal, and traffic control under supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Colorado driver license; must obtain CDL Class B within 12 months and work toward CDL Class A for career progression. Training and on-the-job development are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year education or experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation preferred.
  • Must obtain CDL Class B with air brake endorsement within 12 months; pursuing Class A for progression.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment and perform road maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to emergencies (blizzards, fires, floods) and perform snow/ice removal.
  • Assist with traffic control signage and flagging during construction.
  • Inspect equipment daily and perform basic maintenance or fabrication as needed.
  • Provide good customer service and support to Supervisors on request.
  • Handle manual labor using hand tools and equipment; perform debris collection.
