Job summary

Branch Civil is seeking a Roadway Superintendent to lead on-site execution with the Project Manager, ensuring schedule adherence, cost control, and high standards of workmanship. The role involves supervising crews and subcontractors, preplanning activities, and driving safe, compliant operations on highway and site projects.

You will focus on quality, safety, and efficiency, coordinate with owners and engineers, and manage resources across multi-discipline tasks while traveling regionally.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Working knowledge of standards, specifications, codes, regulations and laws.
• Knowledge of construction techniques.
• 8+ years highway/site construction experience with focus on roadway, highway, paving, grading, drainage, and utility work.
• 3 - 5 years in a supervisory position.
• Managed highway/site projects up to $50MM.
• DOT experience required.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Preferred: NCDOT/VDOT experience.

Responsibilities

• Builds project in accordance with all plans and specifications.
• Develops a Grand Plan/Schedule of operation and communicates to all employees.
• Effectively utilizes resources (people, equipment, materials).
• Supervises subcontractors to ensure quality and schedule requirements.
• Preplans and communicates project activities; plans ahead.
• Reviews budget, time restraints, cost codes, and purchase control with Project Manager.
• Reviews cost status report for accuracy; investigates overruns and maintains margin.
• Establishes a level of quality to measure completed work.
• Ensures day-to-day quality control of company and subcontractor work to meet contract requirements and standards.
• In charge of safety and accident/incident control; enforces safety policy.
• Motivates employees; fosters positive relationships with owners, reps, architects, and engineers.
• Travel: Extensive travel within the region.
• Direct supervision of 3-8 employees and consultants; handles hiring, training, performance, and discipline.
