Job summary

The State of Vermont Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II to perform highway maintenance tasks including repairs to guardrails, vegetation control, patching road surfaces, and litter removal. The role also supports winter plowing and de-icing, with overtime possible, and includes potential vehicle/equipment maintenance duties.

New hires may qualify for a sign-on and retention bonus up to $2000 and must meet CDL requirements as specified.

Qualifications

One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
Non-original probationary employees must obtain the required CDL license within six months of service.

Responsibilities

Repair guardrails, cut trees/brush, patch roads, and pick litter.
Ditch and maintain roadside areas; assist with winter plowing and salting as needed.
Assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Be available for overtime during heavy snowfall or emergencies.
