Job summary

State of South Carolina, Department of Transportation, seeks a maintenance worker in Allendale to operate a tandem dump truck and heavy equipment, hauling materials and performing roadway maintenance.

The role requires physical stamina, a valid CDL within six months, and six months of related work experience. You will inspect equipment, assist in after-hour emergencies, and help keep roadways safe for the public.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required; Class A CDL must be attained within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• May require extended hours or 12-hour shifts during inclement weather or emergencies.
• General maintenance work and safety compliance duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Operate a tandem dump truck to haul materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites.
• Operate front-end loader, backhoe and motor grader for maintenance activities.
• Flag traffic in low/high volume areas to protect workers and the public.
• Conduct and document pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspections per fleet safety rules.
• Pick up litter, debris and dead animals from roadways and right of way.
• Assist in after-hour emergencies and inclement weather operations; may work extended hours.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
