Job summary

The Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is hiring a Highway Technician Assistant I in Letcher County, to support roadway and roadside maintenance in Whitesburg, KY. The role requires operating trucks and maintenance equipment, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Applicants must be 18+, hold a valid driver’s license, and be prepared for overtime. Within 12 months, obtain a Class B CDL, plus First Aid, Snow/Ice Training, Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 certifications

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience required.
• Must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver's license.
• Within 12 months, obtain Class B CDL.
• Within 1 year complete First Aid, Snow & Ice Training, Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10.

Responsibilities

• Operate single axle dump trucks and snowplows, salt spreaders, and mowing machines safely.
• Perform brush cutting with chainsaws or axes and apply chemical treatments.
• Flag traffic for maintenance crews to protect workers and the public.
• Snow removal and roadbed maintenance; shovel blacktop as required.
• Maintain roadways and assist with related maintenance tasks.
