Job summary

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking a Highway Technician I to perform intermediate level work in roadway or roadside maintenance across the Kenton County Unit. The role involves operating a range of heavy equipment, applying materials, and supporting safety and efficiency for Kentucky's transportation system.

Ideal candidates will have 4 years of highway maintenance experience, a valid CDL with tanker endorsement, and be able to work outside in various conditions.

Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• Four years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
• CDL with tanker endorsement required.
• Must be 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader in winter.
• Operate equipment like asphalt distributors, backhoes, loaders, mixers, and pavers.
• Perform road maintenance and install drainage structures.
• Quality assurance inspections for pipe laying and earthwork.
• Provide traffic control as a flagger.
• Positively represent the department in the field.
