Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a highway maintenance worker to perform a variety of tasks using small equipment such as dump trucks and road patching gear. Responsibilities include setting up work zones, sweeping debris, and assisting in inclement weather operations, including possible 12-hour shifts.

There are no formal training requirements, but a valid driver’s license is required and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver's license; CDL Class A must be obtained within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance with small equipment (dump truck, patching tools).
• Operate chainsaws, rakes, shovels; pick up litter and debris.
• Set up traffic control and work zones per guidelines.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations; may require 12-hour shifts or extended hours.
• Other related duties as assigned.
