Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an equipment operator to support road construction and drainage projects. You will operate tandem dump trucks and large rollers, perform manual labor on drainage structures, and assist with traffic control to protect workers and the public.

Candidates must have at least six months of related experience, a valid driver's license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium-duty equipment like a tandem dump truck hauling materials.
• Operates medium-duty equipment such as a large roller (>4 tons).
• Performs manual labor: build catch basins, pour curbs and raised median, lay pipes and repair drainage works.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to protect workers and the public.
• Removes litter and dead animals from the right-of-way.
• Assists in emergency/inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
