Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to join our road maintenance crew. You will operate a tandem dump truck and other medium-duty machinery to haul materials and support highway preservation across the state.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, physical fitness, possible overtime, night or weekend shifts during hazardous weather, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. A valid driver's license is required at entry.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required on entry.

Responsibilities

• Operates a tandem dump truck for hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium duty equipment such as large roller for road/bridge work on the state highway system.
• Picks up litter, debris and dead animals.
• Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations; may include extended work hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
