Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the Baker Section. The role performs laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver duties across highway maintenance tasks including culvert work, landslide removal, sealing, fence and bridge work, guardrail and lighting, and snow/ice control.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC).
• Learner's permit holders have 30 days to obtain the necessary Montana CDL.
• Maintenance Tech Level I requires 1 year of experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment.
• Maintenance Tech Level II requires 1 year of documented road maintenance experience beyond a city/county/other state highway department.
• Maintenance Tech Level III requires 3+ years of documented road maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate various trucks and heavy equipment for culvert placement, landslide removal, sealing, fence building, bridge repair, guardrail installation, luminaire maintenance, road repairs, vegetation and roadside maintenance, pavement marking and striping, and snow/ice control.
