Job summary

State of South Dakota through the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker in Watertown. The role involves maintaining highways, operating heavy equipment, and performing winter and emergency tasks.

Expect 10-hour days during May–Sept and 8-hour days otherwise, with some night/weekend shifts and potential overtime. Applicants must hold a valid driver's license and work toward a Class A CDL with N: Tank Vehicles endorsement within 120 days.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or heavy construction is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Class A CDL with N: Tank Vehicles endorsement within 120 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway maintenance, roadside activities, and repairs on highway infrastructure.
• Install and replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
• Maintain and repair guardrails and facilities; respond to emergencies and inclement weather.
