Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Transportation is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker in Leola. This full-time role maintains state highways, operates equipment, and supports safety initiatives. Schedule includes 10-hour days Mon-Thu in May–Sept and 8-hour days Mon-Fri Oct–Apr, with night/weekend work during emergencies.

Hiring incentive of $2,500 and comprehensive benefits are available. A Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and related qualifications must be obtained within 120 days of hire;

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required with CDL within 120 days.
• Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and no restrictions.
• N endorsement (tank vehicle) may be required for specific positions.
• Pre-employment and random drug testing will apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway maintenance and roadside activities.
• Install/replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
• Maintain/repair guardrails and structures; winter maintenance.
• Operate and maintain equipment; participate in public safety.
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather incidents.
