Florida Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Tech II Trainee at the Tampa Operations Center. The role involves maintaining the state roadway system, operating various heavy equipment, and performing routine inspections and maintenance tasks.

Required CDL-related credentials and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions are emphasized. CAD pay-add-on enhances the annual compensation package and the position is open competitive and in the Career Service.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques.
• Skilled in operating a variety of hand and power tools.
• Ability to maintain and repair highways, bridges and/ or other highway structures.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
• Stooping, climbing, squatting, pushing, pulling, crawling or bending outdoors in various conditions.
• Stand for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

• Operate a backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump trucks; perform pre-trip inspections.
• Use hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges/roadways; perform routine maintenance.
• Carry out rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assist in erecting highway signs.
• Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
