The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking candidates for a highway maintenance-focused position within the department. This role involves operating medium and heavy equipment, performing manual construction tasks, and supporting emergency and inclement weather operations.

Ideal applicants will have six months of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and the potential to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
• May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Responsabilités

• Operates medium equipment such as a tandem dump truck hauling materials and supplies to and from job sites.
• Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader in roadway surface repairs on State maintained roads.
• Performs manual labor in the installation of reinforced concrete pipe for drainage purposes; and in paving using asphalt.
• Uses hand tools such as asphalt rakes, brooms and shovels in daily maintenance operations; also uses chainsaw as necessary in inclement weather.
• Flags traffic during roadway and/or electric repairs to ensure the safety of fellow employees and the traveling public.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
