Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an equipment operator to operate and maintain medium motorized vehicles used on state roadways. Responsibilities include base and surface repairs, patching, leveling, and supporting road and bridge projects in Dorchester County.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required; Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance (e.g., tandem dump truck, patcher, aggregate spreader, large roller >4 tons, skid steer).
• Perform base and surface repairs, patching, leveling and related tasks to support road and bridge work.
• Set up and coordinate traffic control devices according to the SCDOT manual to warn motorists and protect workers.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, possibly including extended hours or 12‑hour shifts.
