Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a hands-on maintenance worker to perform equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and manual tasks on roadways. This role includes emergency roadway operations as an essential employee and requires readiness for snow removal and incident response.

You will contribute to safety, traffic control, and efficient roadway maintenance by operating various equipment, performing pre-trip inspections, and following MUTCD guidelines while working within

Qualifications

• CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Safety shoes required.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment for maintenance and construction.
• Emergency Operations: Clear roadways of snow, ice and debris; provide traffic control.
• Equipment Operations: Operate and maintain highway equipment for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Job Safety: Apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, work zones; maintain safe work environment.
• Manual Labor: Perform manual tasks as part of crew to complete projects.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform maintenance, repairs, and pre-trip inspections.
