Job summary

VDOT seeks workers in Williamsburg to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor for roadway maintenance and emergency response. This role involves operating light to heavy highway equipment and supporting winter operations and traffic control.

Ideal candidates will have the ability to follow plans and instructions, maintain safety standards, and work as part of a crew. A CDL license and DOT medical card are required within 11 months, with adherence to DOT/VDOT safety

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months, and maintain thereafter.
• Experience with highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other types of emergency operations. Clear roadways and provide traffic control.
• Equipment Operations: Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles.
• Job Safety: Demonstrate proper work site protection techniques; wear PPE and follow safety rules and MUTCD standards.
• Manual Labor: Work as a crew member to complete projects using hand and power tools.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform maintenance, replacement and pre-trip inspections.
