Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking candidates for a roadway maintenance role focused on operating light, medium, and heavy equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and conducting manual labor tasks on roadways. The position includes emergency response duties such as snow and ice removal and traffic control in work zones.

Applicants should be capable of following complex plans, maintaining safety standards, and obtaining a CDL with DOT medical certification within 11 months.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Knowledge of work zone safety and MUTCD guidelines.

Responsabilités

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium‑duty equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Clear roadways of snow, ice and debris and provide traffic control.
• Equipment Operations: Operate and maintain a range of highway equipment and vehicles.
• Job Safety: Apply safety regulations and wear PPE; follow current OSHA and VOSHA requirements.
