Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking an experienced equipment operator to perform maintenance and emergency roadway tasks. You will operate light to heavy equipment, inspect and maintain gear, and support snow removal and traffic control efforts.

Applicants should be able to read plans, follow safety rules, and work as part of a crew to complete projects efficiently. Valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months are required.

Qualifications

• Effective communication in speaking and writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in operating hand and power tools and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment.
• Perform snow removal, debris clearance, and traffic control.
• Maintain safety and follow MUTCD guidelines.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on vehicles/equipment.
