Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled pavement maintenance worker to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor essential to roadway upkeep. You will operate light to heavy vehicles, participate in snow removal, and ensure work-zone safety by applying MUTCD standards.

The role requires CDL within 11 months and the ability to work as part of a team in fast-paced emergencies.

Qualifications

• Able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
• Able to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Capable of heavy manual labor.
• Able to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in operating hand and power tools and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Prepare equipment for snow and ice removal and respond to emergencies.
• Ensure traffic control and road safety in work zones.
• Protect work sites and follow MUTCD guidelines.
• Maintain inventory records and assist with safety practices.
