Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a skilled highway maintenance worker to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor in roadway maintenance. The role involves emergency roadway operations as an essential employee.

You will operate light to heavy machinery, ensure work zone safety, apply MUTCD guidance, and contribute to snow removal, traffic control, and routine repairs. A CDL and DOT medical card are required within 11 months.

Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
CDL license and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
Able to perform heavy manual labor safely.
Read and follow oral and written instructions and plans.
Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials and procedures.
Safety shoes are required.

Responsibilities

Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment for maintenance tasks.
Prepare and operate equipment for snow/ice removal and other emergencies, including traffic control.
Operate light, medium, and heavy highway equipment for maintenance/construction tasks.
Ensure work site protection, follow safety rules, and apply MUTCD for detours and work zones.
Participate as a crew member to complete projects and perform manual labor as needed.
