Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager to help shape maintenance plans, supervise field crews, and keep roads and bridges safe and open.

You will manage inspections, coordinate projects with local officials, lead staff, and respond to emergencies across the assigned county. A telework option may be available part-time, with on-site duties at the Coatesville headquarters.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance Planning: Develop programs, estimates, and schedules for surface treatment, patching, snow removal, signage, and other maintenance work.
• Crew Supervision: Direct general and specialized crews performing highway and bridge maintenance and minor construction tasks.
• Operational Coordination: Review resource needs, evaluate work requests, and work with local officials to set project priorities.
• Inspection Oversight: Conduct inspections of maintenance work, monitor environmental permits, and coordinate reviews of contract activities.
• Staff Leadership: Interview candidates, assign tasks, complete performance reviews, support training needs, and address workplace concerns.
• Emergency Response: Manage incident and emergency operations within the assigned county area.
