Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Georgetown, TX is seeking a Maintenance Section Assistant to support the Maintenance Section Supervisor by overseeing crews, coordinating daily activities and maintaining roadway safety standards. Strong leadership and independent work ability are essential for responding to emergencies.

The position requires 6 years of roadway maintenance experience, a valid Texas driver’s license, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
• 6 YEARS of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work; substitution allowed with college education or relevant training.
• Valid driver’s license; must drive state vehicle.
• Commercial Driver Certificate
• Commercial Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Assists in budget preparation for the section.
• Assists in issuing driveway permits and estimating drainage pipe sizes.
• Oversees the work of maintenance crews and contracted crews, including scheduling equipment, materials and personnel.
• Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills.
• Handles public complaints.
• Inspects road conditions and work progress.
• Leads transportation maintenance crews and support staff.
• Ensures operations in supervisor’s absence.
• Schedules daily work assignments; reviews complex questions; assists in career development discussions; approves leave requests.
• Performs other duties as assigned; operates a state vehicle.
