Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a crew leader to perform skilled manual labor and guide a maintenance crew in roadside vegetation management. You will operate side-mount and other heavy equipment, coordinate mowing and right-of-way activities, and maintain HMMS records.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Requires Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Lead crew and perform skilled manual labor for roadway vegetation management.
• Operate heavy equipment including mowers, skid steers, and loaders as needed.
• Direct mowing and vegetation management on right-of-way.
• Maintain records of work performed and materials used (HMMS).
• Instruct crew in safety practices and flagging operations.
• Set up and coordinate traffic control in work zones per manual.
• Conduct safety inspections and monitor equipment maintenance.
• Assist with emergency weather operations and extended shifts.
