Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled maintenance crew leader to oversee road and bridge upkeep across the state highway system. You will operate and supervise the use of heavy equipment, manage a crew, and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently in all weather conditions.

This role requires commitment to standards and on-call rotations. This position emphasizes documentation, adherence to HMMS and EAMS, and coordination with traffic control units to protect

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of related work experience or approved equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; Class A CDL required within six (6) months.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in variable outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Lead a county Special Project crew and supervise maintenance tasks.
• Operate heavy equipment (grader, backhoe, dozer, excavators).
• Install and repair signs, curbs, gutters, and driveways.
• Record daily work and input data into HMMS and EAMS.
• Coordinate traffic control and support emergency operations.
