Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled maintenance worker to perform extensive road and bridge upkeep across the state highway system. You will operate heavy equipment, lead a county crew, clear drainage, install signs, and perform concrete work.

This role requires a valid driver's license, a Class A CDL within six months, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and working near traffic and hazards.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of related work experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be attained within six (6) months of placement.
• Physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to walk extended periods and work near traffic and environmental hazards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate motorized equipment for construction and maintenance tasks.
• Lead a county Special Project/Drainage/Vegetation Management Crew.
• Install and maintain signs and perform concrete work for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and related structures.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations and be available for on-call rotations.
