Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Worker III for Mecklenburg County Maintenance Unit. You will supervise a maintenance crew, operate common heavy equipment, and perform roadway maintenance tasks including asphalt work, pipe installation, and safety setup.

The role requires CDL readiness within 360 days, ability to work in extreme weather, and the capacity to train others.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and five years of equipment operation experience.
• Pre-employment drug testing required and background checks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and work near high volumes of traffic and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct daily work activities of a maintenance crew.
• Train employees in equipment operation and safety procedures.
• Perform asphalt repairs, pipe installation, and right-of-way clearing.
• Set up work zones and operate equipment including asphalt maintainer and dump trucks.
• Respond to emergencies such as snow/ice removal and traffic incidents.
