Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation in Mecklenburg County seeks a Transportation Worker IV (S) to operate heavy equipment and lead a highway maintenance crew. You will perform road repairs, traffic control, snow and ice removal, and routine maintenance in various weather conditions.

This role requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement to be obtained within 360 days of hire, plus pre-employment drug testing and adherence to safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus six years of equipment operation experience.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license; CDL Class A with N endorsement must be obtained within 360 days of hire.
• Experience supervising and directing a work crew in a highway maintenance setting.
• Ability to work in varied weather and safety-conscious environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment including bulldozer, excavator, backhoe, skid steer and other fleet as assigned.
• Lead highway maintenance crew and direct daily activities and task assignments.
• Install traffic control and erosion control devices, perform roadway grading and patching.
• Perform snow and ice removal, salt and salt brine application.
• Adhere to safety rules, follow oral/written instructions, and manage job-related hazards.
