Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a heavy equipment operator for the Hot Crew. The role involves operating backhoes, loaders, and road patchers, and supporting daily safe-work practices on roadways.

Qualified candidates have at least one year of related experience, a valid driver's license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement. This is a full-time state job with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment on the Hot Crew, including backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, and other CDL equipment.
• Supports foreman in daily safe work practices, including flagging, PPE, vehicle safety, CDL inspections, and hazardous materials handling.
• Operates forklift and skid steer loader to perform roadway maintenance tasks.
• Assists with inclement weather operations and may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
