Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a heavy equipment operator to work on the Hot Crew, operating complex duty motorized equipment to maintain roadways. The role supports the foreman in daily safe work practices and may require extended hours and occasional 12-hour shifts.

Required is one year of related work experience or an approved equivalence, plus a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement is mandatory.

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, truck-mounted equipment, lowboy, and motor grader to maintain roadways.
• Support foreman in daily safe work practices, including flagging, PPE, vehicle safety, and CDL inspections.
• Assist with inclement weather operations and extended shifts as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
