Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Crew Leader for highway maintenance who will supervise a field crew and perform skilled manual labor along roadways. You will remove fallen trees, cut vegetation, operate mowers, backhoes, skid steers, and dump trucks while coordinating with traffic control teams.

You must have two years of related work experience and obtain a Class A CDL within six months. Safety training, daily record-keeping, and on-call duties may be required.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• May require extended hours or 12-hour shifts in emergencies or inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Remove fallen trees from roadway and cut dead trees on right-of-way.
• Direct mowing and right-of-way vegetation management operations.
• Operate equipment such as mowers, skid steers, and dump trucks with attachments.
• Assist in scheduling work for the maintenance crew.
• Record daily work and materials used (HMMS and maintenance forms).
• Instruct crew in safety practices including flagging operations and PPE usage.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices and maintain work zones per standards.
• Conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
