Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Raleigh, NC seeks a motivated Civil Engineering intern to join the Transportation Engineering team. The internship offers hands-on exposure to highway design projects and professional development.

You will assist licensed engineers with design and analysis, CAD drafting, and field data collection, while developing skills in MicroStation/AutoCAD and project teamwork. Strong communication and ABET-aligned academics are preferred.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Strong interest in transportation and highway engineering.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Exposure to MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Civil #D is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and analysis of highway projects under licensed engineers.
• Support preparation of construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and CAD drafting with MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Conduct field visits and assist with data collection and site assessments.
• Collaborate with traffic, structural, and environmental engineers.
• Participate in project meetings and contribute to design discussions.
