Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) invites applications for the Roadway Design Engineering Intern in Lincoln, Nebraska. This role offers mentorship, on-the-job training, and opportunities to contribute to roadway design projects within the Roadway Design Division.

You must be a student in a related engineering field, with CAD experience preferred, able to work 10–15 hours weekly, and participate in meetings and project activities while maintaining good attendance.

Qualifications

• Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.
• Experience in the use of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of roadway construction projects.
• Be responsible for assisting in the review of work of a broad scope, complexity, and diversity.
• Design horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, roadway cross sections and other design features.
• Prepare preliminary and final construction project plans.
• Participate in and document engineering decisions, write special provisions and keep project correspondence files accurate and up to date.
• Prepare for and participate in project meetings including plan in hand, public information, public hearing, pre-appraisal and pre-construction meetings.
• Prepare for and participate in project field inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
