Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Roadway Design team seeks a Highway Design Engineer to design complex rural and municipal road projects in Lincoln, NE. You’ll work under supervision to develop alignments, drainage, and construction plans, contributing to NEPA processes and project documentation.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering and EIT within one year; PE licensure is required for the Professional Engineer I track.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment within one year of employment.
  • For Professional Engineer I: must possess PE license or be able to obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design of complex rural and municipal roadway projects.
  • Design horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, guardrail, and drainage features.
  • Prepare drainage plans and estimates of construction quantities and costs.
  • Coordinate multiple projects with cities, counties, and utilities.
  • Assist engineering personnel and provide project documentation and meetings support.
